From the Where2sing.com forum:

hi David and Jason,
This could be taken a further step. There are a lot of industries that have recognised standards. They also have an association for eg; MBA Master Builders Association, HIA Housing Industry Association. Why not AKA Australian Karaoke Association, where to be a member you have to meet certain standards, these can be formed by karaoke hosts submitting ideas and then a poll maybe to set what those standards would be from the ideas submitted. Who better to set the standards than the people who have to live by them....the karaoke hosts. It should purely be on a set standard of categories giving a rating of eg; gold, silver and bronze level. some points i would like to make;
1. As for experience comming into play, i know of hosts that have been in the industry for years and i wouldn't give you 2 cents for them and others that have been involved for less than 12 months that would run rings around other hosts.
2.I disagree with the singers being able to vote, i can see problems with this if you have a disgruntled singer.
3.Present crowd size may also be hard some venues hold 40 people others 200 so what constitutes successful as far as crowd size goes?
4. Contracts/ agreements is a sticky one, some areas just cant use them, it means losing venues.
5.It should maybe more to quality of equipment, mics etc, not necessarily the amount of songs but the selection of songs, genres etc, If the host is keeping up to date with new releases,are they insured,Proof of legitamaite discs, what promotions and advertising is done no matter whether it is free or paid for, even references from venue managers and this doesnt mean the hosts with the most gigs get more points and im sure hosts out their can add to this without a problem.
6.As for the pricing factor that you mentioned David this would have to vary from city to city etc as there is a big variation in price structure.
7. Cancellation of the rating that you mentioned David seems very fair, Using, or allowing to be used, a burnt disc, Gross misrepresentation of facts in the hosts submission.
These are just more ideas to be thought about.
