Hi David, Firstly I must compliment you on the new look of W2S! It is great! I must apologise for not logging on often enough but family illness and working two jobs is proving very time consuming. What has prompted me to get in touch is a piece of news that I would like to share with other singers and venues that I am sure can only improve the lot for karaoke nationally. I was approached by several of our regulars at Logan Diggers about the possibility of putting together a show , utilising their talents, to be staged in the brand new auditorium at the club. I am so proud of our regulars that I immediately started negotiations with management on their behalf. The result is a wonderful non-stop Show called "Where were you?" It takes you on a journey through various genres and showcases the talents of our karaoke singers, none of whom are professional singer, though goodness knows why. Wrong place and wrong time I guess. This show will correct that for those who have aspirations to venture down that path, and for others, I hope that they enjoy the adrenalin rush that onl a live audience can bring to their performance. The show is FREE to what we hope will be a huge audience. However there is a booking fee of $5.00 which is redeemable at the Crystal Palace Bar or at the Bistro . Which means that when they present their ticket at the bistro the $5.00 comes off their meal . Sunday meal special is a 2 course fantastic meal for $7.55 ($2.55 with your ticket). If the show proves popular, and I am confident it will, it will become a regular feature at Logan Diggers where it is hoped that agents and talent scouts will source new talent. So I am hoping that karaoke singers get behind this and ensures its success. Who knows, they could well be showcased in the next show. This could well become a role model for any other venue wishing to reward their talented singers, removing it from the competition arena. The only competition would be a personal challenge for singers to raise the bar on their own performances. The show kicks off at 6pm on Sunday week 23 October and should be over by 8.30pm in time for children to leave the premises by the 9pm deadline. People wishing to attend can book their tickets at reception at Logan Diggers, 42-48 Blackwood Road, Logan Central, or by calling 07-32088122. I'm hoping that you can pass this information on . It can only help to improve the lot for karaoke singers and venues everywhere. I am of to Africa in a few weeks to visit a terminally ill relative but will be sure to contact you on my return with a view to subscribing. Many thanks,

Great to hear from you, and of course sorry to hear of the illness in your family. Your "Where were you?" show sounds like a great idea, and quite close to something that I have heard suggested a few times - except that I have not previously heard of anything eventuating. On the other hand, so many ideas are discussed, but so few of them put into practice, that your project is of course highly interesting. As karaoke builds in popularity, it certainly is the time for hosts to consider how it can be expanded and give them a wider market, and utilising your top singers in a show to entertain a wider audience sounds like a natural add on to any venue running reasonably well-attended karaoke. I'll share this information via the 'Ask David' forum, but the real information of interest will be your feedback on how the night went. Perhaps you could share a report of this, including an idea of the dollar figures of the night, and I could reprint that in full in the following News Email.
