From the Where2sing.com forum:

Bruce, re singers judging:
I have a personal dislike of most karaoke comps, as in my opinion,
(1) they do nothing for the karaoke gig, as the comp chasers don't generally return after the comp has finished - they're chasing the next one. Also the majority of comp chasers don't do their bit in bar contributions, which is what pays us as hosts.
(2) The full judging criteria is either not properly established and explained, or is not adhered to by the judges.
(3) the judges are not suitably qualified.

Bearing the above in mind, I commend you on your 'left of centre' thinking, however to think you would get a favourable outcome if you were to continue this practice would be folly.

Competitions should be judged wherever possible by people 'in the know'; people in the music industry, singing teachers, and the like. People who can genuinely have an unbiased opinion on the total performance. Apart from the fact that singers that have been perhaps eliminated, or are consistent comp chasers may not be adequatly qualified to judge others, they may also have 'axes to grind' with other performers.
