I look forward to similar and even way more advanced technology yet to come arriving in our karaoke venues! Singer rotation could be kept fair if it was left up to a software program to sort who was entitled to sing next based on time of entrant's song request and number of times sung. The host of course would be able to insert their own name anywhere in the rotation by means of an over-ride should they desire to. No more frantic riffling through and ordering of song slips (or cutting them out in the first place) or crossing off names on a list. Reduced weight of song books and slips (replaced instead with that of a computer) and printing / binding costs and subsequently saved time.
Even timing a show to meet venue requirements could be built in by entering song lengths or simply having them registered if using computer recordings instead of discs in the first place. Once the list is full, the program could state so to the KJ or at the very least, have a running counter to show how much more time is left to fill. The fudge factor would be any announcements needing to be made, how long singers take to get to the stage and any cancellations of songs in the rotation.
The sound could be preset through another program so that when the frequencies of the first good mixed song to the KJ's ears have been locked in, the program could adjust all the songs of the night to comply with the sound settings. No more fine tuning EQ's or rushing to stop the desk levels from peaking or adjusting singers voices in accordance, leaving the KJ free to make sure the night runs smoothly and enjoyably for one and all.
Ah... the possibilities!! All just a few years away too - dependent on costs involved to the KJ's / venues to invest in such systems. How exciting!! =D
