From the Where2sing.com forum:

Johnny I think the emphasis that you have placed on the word respect is totally wrong.
In talent quests and Karaoke competitions one must definitely have crowd support and it’s not a matter of respect and it’s not a matter of singing at them it’s about interaction with the audience.
Chris Farnham of Triple Treat fame once told my daughters the best way in which to win the audience heart was to sing to them not at them, a skill which is hard to master but once you gain it, it becomes a valuable tool.
My Dad used to say respect is something you gain over a period of time and something which can never be brought.
I feel that you may have used it in the wrong context regarding the Audience.
Last week we had a Elderly Guy sing Green Green Grass of Home and his friends there with him liked it, now because the audience were mainly young people should he have picked a better song out of (your word) respect for the younger audience.
Maybe the young guy that sang Head like a hole by Nine Inch Nail should have had respect (there’s that word again) for the older people there and not sang it.
No I don’t think so as they were the songs they choose.
I think Sammo summed it up quiet well “it is fully participatory and interactive, it is you and I and everyone else “having fun, and having a go at singing”, just ordinary folks, amusing ourselves and entertaining others too “
Now having said that I’m still waiting for your visit.
Hope to see you soon.
Kind Regards
Kev
