It might be OK for the singing 'purist' , 'though I reckon as an evening's entertainment something might be lost for the average person , having to sit through thesame songs over & over. Also , with 5 song styles/genres (or even 3)you'd be starting to limit the number of contestants on any given night , therefore (possibly) limiting the venue's revenue , But I like your line of thinking....!!
BTW.... Your sense of justice isn't that warped ! You could've suggested that 2nd last be flogged with a rancid mullet , & last be stripped naked & chained to the lampost out the front , with a sign saying ' LOSER !!' hung around their neck . Now that would be warped !!....lol
