From the Where2sing.com forum:

HI SAMMO
I agree with Rob Deal comps are a waste of time it only brings in the chasers once they get in you don't see them again unless you state they must be seen more than once before the grand final night. It can harm your regulars that come every week for fun not for comps. Theme nights are a great way to break the normal routine and it can be done with or with out prize money. Most die hard Karaoke singers love theme nights. It can attract some blow ins but over all it is a great night,You can have them every six weeks or so.Depends on the venue and your regulars. Maybe some of the blow ins find they like the place and become regulars. Comps don't attract people to come back till the next comp as they are off chasing other comps. If this it what you are looking for then go for it and I wish you well but Asking people to pay to sing will not keep your venue alive, Most Karaoke comps chasers want to gain money not lose it, not every-one can be a winner ,so the odds will be against them.
Good Luck with the venture......
