JAMES T ORR:

Kapow! Bang! Spot on James! You have caught my wavelength. Now I understand why you have been successful with your past pub and other ventures. You and I are the only 2 (thus far) standing at the same spot looking at this “thing”, within the same frame and at the same angle!

Yes, of course I am aiming at “outside the normal karaoke world” for the contestants. In fact, I will be VERY surprised if I get ONE karaoke junkie / karaoke comp-chaser among the 50 contestants (if I can entice 50 that is – remains my biggest challenge).

I think people have missed the preamble to my posts, when I did stress that:
(1) I LOATHE karaoke comps with a vengeance.
(2) I WILL NEVER hold a karaoke comp per se at my venue.
(3) It is open to ALLCOMERS.

And reading between the lines (and from my prior posts):
(a) I have no respect for the 2-3 song repertoire comp-chaser.
(b) I hate SWDs and cheapskates out for a “free” night of entertainment.
(c) I hate whinging karaoke-comp losers.

Hence my idea of developing something different, viz. a “comp”:
- Which is NOT the centre piece of the night, which will NOT take over the whole show, which is NOT the reason for karaoke to be on at the venue that night : It is but a “side-show” and the audience will not even know that it is part of a karaoke-comp as I will only have the one singer per night doing a 5-song bracket as a precursor to the normal Karaoke Show, and who will be introduced as a guest performer (hmmm have to think about that last one).
- Where people put their money where their mouths are (as James put it – couldn’t have described it any better myself)!
- For people who are so sure of their own abilities that they are willing to BET (yes, “bet” is the right word here) $250 to win $1000 or $3000 or $5000.
- For others who are willing to part with $250 so that they can showcase their talent in front of an audience (which they can have a hand in putting together, by inviting “unsuspecting” family / friends / colleagues for a night out).
