| From the Where2sing.com forum: Nice karaoke article in today's SMH, specifically how karaoke rooms have fluorished in Sydney & basically in Australia. While I first started doing karaoke using karaoke rooms I don't find it that great. The only thing good about KTV's (as they call it in Manila) is that you have the entire room all to yourself where you can sing as many songs as you want & its great fun especially with friends where you can just sing without inhibitions. Some rooms even offer 'special services' but that's beside the point. For singing purposes I dont like karaoke rooms mainly because the sound is not as good. Of course you can control the volume, key, pitch etc but the quality is not as good as the real karaoke machines. There are times also that the song you want to sing, although its in the songbook is unavailable as it is being used as well in another room. The backing tracks also are not the same unlike the Sunflys which are almost as good as the original. I have yet to visit one of these KTVs in Sydney but I'm pretty much alright with my regular haunts. I've had lots of friends asking about karaoke rooms to celebrate an occassion but I've always pointed them about the plethora of karaoke joints around Sydney where they can sing not only for free but have a night out which is as equally as good, if not better.
