What you say would certainly appear to be the case in many venues....The number of times we have had a big line up of singers 30+...but not such a huge audience....often the bar take is quite mediocre!
On other occassions a small line up of singers 10-12....yet a rather large and thirsty audience keeping Bar Staff busy till 2am.with good bar sales to boot!
It would seem to me that if the Karaoke is of a reasonable enough standard to attract reasonable and entertaining singers ...then the benefit to the Venue is that those who normally have no interest in Karaoke at all ...tend to stick around and join in the party without necessarily getting up and singing themselves..
Its these people that often spend up big behind the bar ...With many Karaoke regulars often drinking Water..Soft Drink or only small amounts of Alcohol....yet still providing quality FREE entertainment for the non Karaoke audience.
