From the Where2sing.com forum:

Did anyone notice that Channel 9s show 20-1 voted karaoke as the wackiest & most embarassing fad? They showed SBS footage. They have no idea. It's no fad. I can't see how any singer who's used a karaoke machine would go back to their guitar. Mine has collected dust in the shed for years now. It requires huge concentration, practise, and just can't compete with karaoke backing tracks. That, alone, lifts it from the fad category as backing tracks are here to stay as a musical instrument format. Most so-called 'live' muso's use drum machines etc so the boundary is even more blurred. The media perception of karaoke is clearly very low indeed.
