Garry - Rising Star Karaoke... I really think that sound mixing is a lot lower in imporatnce than song rotation, crowd appreciation and having your favourite unusual songs in the list. And that mixing has to be a long way wrong before people start complaining about it - and that's why the complaints are then so vocal, in that 'what is the host doing to get it so wrong'.

One guy who always seems to have good sound, regardless of venue or singer, and without very much twiddling of knobs, is Dave Fraser. About a year back I asked him how he always had his sound set so nicely, and in his words 'I dunno mate, I just set up and plug it all in and leave everything somewhere near the middle and only change it when I can hear something wrong - I don't know how some people can get their sound so bad.' I wonder whether part of his 'secret' is that he's always wandering around amongst his singers and audience, and is hearing the same sound as they do.
