Hi David. Just wondering if you have any more thoughts on the free beer campaign?

REPLY from David
The 'Free Beer' campaign idea is struggling to get enough comments from hosts to suggest it has merit. But, the basic rationale for this was to be able to measure the results from having a listing on W2S, particuarly because hosts felt that they rarely got a singer from W2S. Given the number of singers who do visit W2S, and that I run into a lot of W2S people at gigs (no matter which State), I think that W2S people spread their information far and wide. I also notice that hosts who are keen to say they don't get singers from W2S are also extremely keen to have a listing on W2S, so I'm getting the impression that they do know that they get singers from W2S. Given all that, is it still as important to measure the W2S response? I think, because in business it's important to measure such things - if you can't measure it, you can't improve it. Ideally, what singers get for free should be something that requires them to p;urchase somethoing else - and the free item should not be the main item that they would purchase anyway. So the answer to the 'Free Beer' idea is really going to be up to hosts to decide what singers should get free - remembering that it should be: 1. Sufficient to induce a singer to attend 2. Purely for the purpose of measuring the gig's W2S response If I get a list of suggestions from hosts, I could make a list on the website from which hosts deciden what they will give free in return for a 'public' listing. Anyway, I'll create the default method of paying to make gigs 'public', and await more suggestions from hosts as to how gigs could also be made 'public' through some other system like 'Free Beer'.
