The nicknames of people in the AskDavid forum are masked so that questions can be truly anonymous.
VOTES:
Each person has one vote, so no matter how many times they vote or for how many different venues, it's only their last vote that counts. Votes also drop off the system after 6 months (at present -I'm thinking about reducing this time period to make voting a bit more of a 'current measure'). IP addresses don't affact voting, as votes are per-person. One person with multiple email addresses (as many have) also only gets one vote.

The value of the Top 10 to a host:
The Top 10 is valuable advertising for a host, as confirmed by those who recommend these gigs to their friends in the area. Also, gigs in the top 3 have their links available to non-subscribers, and hence many of those visiting the site for the first time click on these and read the info and comments on these 3 gigs.
