Karaoke Idol 2006 report

Whilst there may often be debate as to how much karaoke competitions enhance the image of karaoke, there can be little doubt that one competition just run in Victoria had a particularly positive effect.

And so it's also great that the organiser, Bruce Matt of BPM Entertainment, has taken the time to write the story of the Grand Final:

Well another year has drawn to a close on Karaoke Idol 2006 and yet again the Grand Finalists got up and did themselves proud. Congratulations and well done to all 27 who competed.

A special mention and Thanks to Todd Barson from the Pool Room. Todd, you did an amazing job with the venue and it looked fantastic. Thank you for all your work and support. Also a special mention to Jo at TCL, Kelly from Studio max Capitol Karaoke and David at where2sing for your ongoing support of Karaoke here in Victoria.

I have already received a few emails congratulating us on probably the best Karaoke Idol series yet. The sound system was fantastic with Aidy behind the controls and Lynten produced what I believe was sheer magic with an awesome light show display.

The night opened with Georgina and Scott (2005 winners) doing a duet from Billy Joel and captivating the audience of 450 patrons. Since last year, Scott has moved on to peruse amateur theater and duo work and Georgina has produce a C.D. single called “Platinum Lover” and is getting great airplay in Europe and currently sitting in the top 40 in Scotland !!

It was standing room only with all the Grand Finalist being called up and introduced to the crowd and our 2 x wild cards being Drawn Jess and Russell (ironically both from the Tudor Inn). All of the Grand Finalists looked and sounded like Rock stars on stage and I do believe the whole ambiance helped bring out the best in there performances. I did not know all of the singers personally but the ones I did know and have heard sing blew me away with some of the best renditions of songs I have ever heard them sing. A few even commented to me that after performing the sheer exhilaration was one of the best experiences they have ever had and that they came off stage just buzzing.

A special mention to all of the Grand Finalists who represented there venues:
- The Sandy (Emma Sharp and Trevor Jacobs)
- Playhouse (Travis Cole and Lygina Fowler)
- Village Green (David Reimers and Andrea Carr)
- Waterloo (Marvina Tranchina and John Hill)
- Poolroom (Azza Tranta and Ginger Mindoza)
- Hampton Park (Cheryl Blisqueeth and Jae Tuhi)
- The Waltzy (Christina Vega and Brett Kinkade)
- The Tudor (Gary Bright and Jess Kennedy)
- Stamford (Wes Pate and Alicia Copeland/ Shazzy Deal tied)
- The Mountain View (Filis Palatines and Pat Broughton)
- Fern Tree Gully (Aaron Appleby and Regina Nowlan)
- Eltham . . .(full story on where2sing.com)
